A checklist before hiring a software studio

Before signing a contract, ask a potential vendor the following questions.
About the process
- Who will actually do the work on my project?
- How often can I see progress, and in what form?
- What happens if the requirements change mid-project?
About ownership
- Do I own the source code when the project is finished?
- Where are my servers and data kept, and who has access?
About life after launch
- How long is the warranty, and what does it cover?
- What is the monthly maintenance cost, and what is included?
A good vendor will answer all of this clearly and in writing. Vague answers are a signal to be careful.
